Welcome you to the 2012 ABC recreational baseball season.  Your son must be 9-years old on April 30^th, 2012 to play in this league.

The ABC expects all spectators, especially parents, to be excellent role models for all the children.  No foul language; no verbal abuse of players, coaches, or umpires; and no physical threats will be tolerated.  ABC officials have the authority to ban violators from the parks, and the Ascension police will be notified.  ABC expects the same respect and professionalism from its volunteers.  If an issue arises during the season, please contact the following people in this order:

The number of teams is determined by the number of players who are registered.  We typically have 12 players on each team.  If you are interested in being a HEAD COACH, please contact the LEAGUE REP at the above info.

Each HEAD COACH has his son on his team and can designate two other players for his team: the son of an ASST. COACH and the son or grandson of TEAM SPONSOR.  An official team sponsor must submit to the league rep, before the preview, a check of $300 or more payable to the ABC for his son or grandson to be designated.  A team can have many sponsors, but only one is the official team sponsor.  100% of this money goes back to the team, and the team determines how that money is spent.

The PLAYER PREVIEW is for all boys not designated on a team.  It will take place at the 9-year old field in the rear of Stevens’ Park and is scheduled for Saturday, March 3^rd.  Please arrive according to the schedule below:

• 9:30am for player’s last name beginning with A thru F.
• 10:30am for player’s last name beginning with G thru M.
• 11:30am for player’s last name beginning with N thru Z.

Upon arriving, make sure your son’s arm is warmed up.  Then form a line at the entrance gate to the field on the 3^rd base side.  Boys will preview in order of arrival and will be asked to perform the following baseball activities:

1)       Run to left field, catch 2 fly balls and make the throw to second base.

2)       Move to third base and field 2 grounders and make the throw to first base.

3)       Drop his glove at the dugout and run to home plate to hit 3 balls into the fence from an adult’s soft toss.

4)       He then gets in his batting stance at home plate and runs as fast as he can to first base.

5)       He will then get ready at first base and run to second and third base as fast as he can.

The player’s tasks are now completed and you can leave.

NOTE: Any player who does not attend the preview is not guaranteed a position on a team.

 The DRAFT will be at ST. AMANT PARK REC CENTER on Sunday, March 4^th at 4:00pm.  This is for coaches only.

• The order of the draft is determined by random number drawing and proceeds in a serpentine manner.
• Designated players are assigned the following draft picks:

-          SPONSOR’s son or grandson is that team’s second round pick.

-          ASST. COACH’s son is that teams third round pick.

-          HEAD COACH’s son is that teams last round pick.

• Once the previewed players’ draft is complete, those players who did not attend the preview are put into a “hat.”  Coaches will draw names continuing in the draft order until all teams have 12 players.
• After the draft is completed, coaches will contact their players to notify them about the team and practice.
